SPEAKER: Julie Rennecker, PhD, Founder and Chief - Catalyst of Syzygy Teams


Remote work, social distancing, and variable hybrid in-person/remote team configurations can leave everyone feeling demotivated and disconnected. Add in increased home demands and people can start “fraying at the edges.” This presentation addresses both the psychological and logistical challenges of keeping teams connected, focused, and engaged whether working remotely, in shifts, or in some hybrid configuration. Participants will leave with actionable insights they can begin applying immediately with no additional tools or training. Bonus benefit – these same practices can be used to improve both the “home team” and in-person team effectiveness as well!
Learning Objectives:
Participants in this session will be able to:
  1. List at least three psychological anchors that provide a sense of stability in the midst of disruptive change.
  2. Describe at least two ways to immediately apply psychological anchors in their own organizations.
  3. List the three essential (and tool-agnostic) infrastructure components required for efficient and effective distributed collaboration.
  4. Explain the importance of establishing use agreements for communication and collaboration tools.


Julie Rennecker, PhD, Founder & Chief Catalyst of Syzygy Teams, is a scholar-practitioner committed to using and teaching evidence-based methods for improving organization performance. Her research and consulting projects have taken her behind the scenes of diverse Fortune 500 technology firms, including computer hardware, software, semiconductor, cloud storage, and medical technology companies. She earned her doctorate in Organizational Behavior from MIT’s Sloan School of Management where she studied teams and technology change. She then served on the Information Systems faculty at Case Western Reserve University where she taught in both the MBA and Executive Education programs. With more than 20 years’ experience conducting research and advising executives, Julie brings a unique synthesis of academic knowledge and field-tested methodologies to bear on the human aspects of complex organizational challenges. She is certified in Appreciative Inquiry, a strengths-based change methodology, and as a Strengthscope™ Practitioner.
