PRESENTATION SUMMARY

Based on real life examples, Natalie will start the presentation with a short story about “fake” events at a fake company that lead to a completely bumbled “investigation.” This is an incredibly technical area for courtroom attorneys, but Natalie will simply the obligations that HR professionals need to know so you can keep your internal affairs out of courtroom.

Attendees will:

  • Get a primer on the laws about investigations.
  • Issue spot the many many ways that innocuous workplace activities can lead to horrible investigative outcomes.
  • Understand a litigator’s framework for analysis so that HR can prevent technical problems before they occur.

SPEAKER BIO

Natalie R. Lynch is a business and employment law attorney in Austin, Texas who has demonstrated expertise in workplace investigations, workplace employment law, and entity formations. Having lived abroad in both Ghana and Spain, Natalie brings unique perspectives to helping companies conduct business nationally and internationally throughout Asia (particularly Japan and China), South Africa, Latin America, and all over the world.

Credentialed through the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI), Natalie is the only consulting and credentialed expert in Central Texas who conducts investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, and other issues. As a credentialed dispute resolution mediator, she routinely collaborates with general counsel, internal and external counsel, employment litigators, employment generalists, and senior human resources professionals.

Natalie is the incoming Chair of the Austin Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section and serves in leadership roles for the Texas State Bar Association, including the International Bar Section and the Animal Law Section. In Colorado, Natalie was a two-term president of the Aurora Bar Association, the first recipient of the Colorado Bar Association’s Future Leaders award, and a member of the Bar Association’s Executive Council.
